This wide range of practices reflected the same diversity seen across the rest of the United States.<\/h4>\r\n<h4>This exhibit explores this diversity of experience by showcasing <em data-start=\"335\" data-end=\"356\">Death in Transition<\/em> in East Tennessee\u2014how the funeral industry developed during the late 19th century and into the 1920s. It highlights the shift from family, community, and artisan-led care of the dead to the rise of early funeral homes and industrial coffin-making businesses.
